In support of the United Nations Global Road Safety Week and as part of the regional “Power of No” campaign, the Automobile Association of Vietnam (AA Vietnam), together with its partners, recently donated a total of 1,000 helmets to young people in Hanoi. The initiative aims to promote safer road-user behaviours and raise awareness of responsible road use among young people and local communities.

The programme is supported by the Asia Pacific International Spirits and Wines Alliance (APISWA) and implemented in collaboration with Pernod Ricard Vietnam & Cambodia, the EuroCham Vietnam Wines and Spirits Sector Committee (EuroCham WSSC), and the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University of Transport and Communications (UTC).
The first helmet donation event was held on 23 May 2026 in Phu Xuyen Commune, Hanoi, where AA Vietnam, in coordination with the People’s Committee of Phu Xuyen Commune, distributed 500 helmets to young people aged between 18 and 35.
The event was attended by Mr. Nguyen Thanh Chung, Member of the Standing Committee of the Commune Party Committee and Standing Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Phu Xuyen Commune; leaders of the Culture and Social Affairs Division; representatives of the Office of the People’s Council and People’s Committee; village heads; and representatives of the Board of Management of Phu Xuyen A High School.
Representing the partner organisations were Sir Greig Craft, President of the Automobile Association of Vietnam and President of the Asia Injury Prevention Foundation; Ms. Trinh Thi Van Giang, Director of External Affairs, Sustainability and Communications at Pernod Ricard Vietnam & Cambodia; and representatives of APISWA, EuroCham WSSC, and the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University of Transport and Communications.

The second event took place on 15 June 2026 in Trung Gia Commune, Hanoi, where AA Vietnam donated an additional 500 helmets, bringing the total number of helmets distributed under this initiative in Vietnam to 1,000.
At both events, delegates discussed the current road safety situation in Vietnam, with particular emphasis on the importance of improving awareness and compliance with traffic laws among young people, students, and local residents. The activities also highlighted the need for coordinated efforts among government authorities, educational institutions, civil society organisations, businesses, and communities to address ongoing road safety challenges.
According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Chung, Standing Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Phu Xuyen Commune, the locality has a population of more than 100,000 residents and serves as the southern gateway to Hanoi. With a rapidly developing transport network and increasing traffic volume, road safety has remained a key priority for the commune, which has implemented various communication and awareness-raising activities tailored to different target groups.
Similarly, speaking at the event in Trung Gia Commune, Ms. Truong Thi Thanh Nhan, Member of the Standing Committee of the Commune Party Committee and Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Trung Gia Commune, expressed her sincere appreciation to AA Vietnam, its partners, and sponsors for their support and commitment to promoting road safety within the local community. She also expressed her hope for continued cooperation to further strengthen public awareness and compliance with traffic laws, particularly among young people.
The “Power of No” campaign carries a clear and positive message, encouraging communities to say “No” to dangerous behaviours on the road, particularly driving after consuming alcohol, while promoting safe road-user habits such as wearing quality-standard helmets, strictly complying with traffic laws, and protecting oneself, one’s family, and the wider community.
Speaking at the events, Sir Greig Craft, President of AA Vietnam, said:
“Motorcyclists and young people remain among the most vulnerable road users in Vietnam and across the region. Practical initiatives such as helmet donation programmes are therefore critical in saving lives. AA Vietnam remains committed to working with responsible partners such as APISWA to promote safer road-user behaviours, including consistent helmet use and saying no to drink driving. By combining community-level interventions with sustained awareness-raising efforts, we can help protect young people today and build a stronger road safety culture for the future.”
As a member club of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), AA Vietnam remains committed to promoting road safety and sustainable mobility in Vietnam through partnerships with government agencies, educational institutions, businesses, and civil society organisations.
The helmet donation activities also marked an important milestone in strengthening public-private partnerships for road safety in Vietnam. During the event in Phu Xuyen Commune, AA Vietnam and the EuroCham Vietnam Wines and Spirits Sector Committee (EuroCham WSSC) formally exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Advancing Road Safety in Vietnam.
The MoU establishes a framework for long-term cooperation in several key areas, including:
• Expanding the implementation of the Power of No campaign in Vietnam;
• Promoting integrated road safety programmes and awareness initiatives targeting young people and other high-risk road-user groups;
• Supporting evidence-based interventions to prevent drink driving and encourage safer road-user behaviours;
• Promoting helmet safety and the protection of vulnerable road users;
• Strengthening public-private partnerships and policy engagement to support effective drink-driving frameworks and broader road safety priorities.
The regional Power of No campaign is a youth-focused public awareness and behaviour-change initiative supported by APISWA. Since its launch in 2021, the campaign has reached more than 50 million young people across Southeast Asia, encouraging responsible decision-making and empowering young adults to say “No” to drink driving and other risky behaviours.
Through helmet donations, road safety advocacy, and strengthened collaboration among stakeholders, AA Vietnam and its partners hope to contribute to reducing road traffic injuries and fatalities, fostering a stronger culture of safe and responsible road use, and supporting the global target of reducing road traffic deaths and injuries by 50 per cent by 2030, in line with the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety.
